It is a great pleasure for Norway Supercup to present our team from Iceland - Velkomið að spila icehocky à Noregi !
The team from Iceland is a mixed team of the players from 3 clubs :Björninn, Skautafelagið ReykjavÃkur and Skautafelagið Akureyri.
This is going to be their first tournament in Norway and they and Norway Supercup are really looking forward to that.
Hockey was first played in Iceland at around 1950, on ponds and rivers. The weather made it very hard to play, so Icelandic hockey did not develop for some time. In 1987 the first ice arena was made, allowing for artificial ice. Another one was made three years later. The first indoor arena was built in 1997, and other one was built in 2000.
The league was formed in 1991, with three teams. The league starts usually in the beginning of October and ends in March/April.
