Rules for Radisson Blu Oslo Cup 2010

The Tournament is played according to the World Curling Federation rules and applying the four-rock rule. The first named team will play with the red handles, and one member of each team will make a practice shot and a draw for the button for the hammer.

All matches are played over 8 ends with extra ends if necessary.
In the Round Robin matches and the quarterfinals only one extra end will be played. If no points are scored in this extra end the teams will play one shot to tee for the win.

The men’s teams play a Round Robin in 3 groups of 6 teams, and all teams will play a draw shot challenge following their second win. All 4 players make one shot each, and the 3 best results will count for the team. The last shot will only be used to separate teams with equal results.

After the Round Robin all the teams will be ranked together by number of wins and the result of the draw shot challenge. If unable to qualify the teams for the quarterfinals, a minimum of tie breakers will be played in a way that no team shall be eliminated from the competition without playing a deciding game. If 2 tie breaker sessions are necessary 6 end tie-break games will be played where normal rules apply.

In the quarterfinals the highest ranked team will play the lowest ranked team and so forth. One semifinal will be played by the winners of the games including the highest and the fourth ranked teams; the other by the winners of the games including the second and the third ranked teams.

The loosing teams in the quarterfinals are ranked joint 5th.

The loosing teams in the semifinals are ranked joint 3rd.

The women’s teams play a Round Robin in 3 groups of 5 or 6 teams, and all teams will play a draw shot challenge following their second win. All 4 players make one shot each, and the 3 best results will count for the team. The last shot will only be used to separate teams with equal results.

After the Round Robin the teams will be ranked by number of wins, internal results and then the result of the draw shot challenge to determine the 3 best teams in each group. If unable to separate the teams by this, a minimum of tie breakers will be played in a way that no team shall be eliminated from the competition without playing a deciding game. If 2 tie breaker sessions are necessary 6 end tie-break games will be played where normal rules apply.

The two highest ranked teams in each group are qualified for the quarterfinals together with the third ranked team with the best draw shot challenge result. The other third ranked teams will play a challenge match for the last spot in the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals the highest ranked team will play the lowest ranked team and so forth, but in a way that all teams play a team from another group.

One semifinal will be played by the winners of the games including the highest and the fourth ranked teams; the other by the winners of the games including the second and the third ranked teams.

The loosing teams in the quarterfinals are ranked joint 5th.

The loosing teams in the semifinals are ranked joint 3rd.
